Slimming World's weight loss support groups will go ahead through online sessions during lockdown.

The strict rules regarding social distancing and isolation had threatened to impede members in their attempts to meet and help each other, but Slimming World's virtual solution should ensure that groups can continue as close to normally as is possible.

Online sessions will take place through video conferencing platform Zoom, providing members with a means to chat and encourage each other in regular sessions and social media will help supplement slimming advice alongside the app and website.

As well as minimising any disruption to the service provided to members, the new virtual groups will protect livelihood of consultants who are self employed.

Kelly Cooper, a consultant and team developer from Bury St Edmunds, said: "my life crumbled when I was enforced to close my groups, I’ve been a consultant for 6 years and never have I shut my support to my members. I sobbed my heart out, absolutely gutted, and really didn’t not know what to do. The group is really a great support network and I am so delighted that through the power of the this new modern technology world we live in, that there is a way to offer the same Slimming World love, support and care to every single person who is struggling with the guilt and shame of their weight."
