SnOasis winter sports complex at Great Blakenham could be operational in 2023

Plans for the multi-million SnOasis winter sports complex, at Great Blakenham, will be discussed by planners on Wednesday.

Mid Suffolk District Council's planning referrals committee will discuss the future of the 123-hectare site at the former Blue Circle quarry.

The development would include a ski slope, bobsleigh run, ice and skating rinks, conferencing and exhibition centre, sports academy and hostel, hotel, holiday lodges, casino, nightclub/bars, restaurants, cafés, leisure and retail.

The latest application is described as a 'crucial step forward in the life of this long-standing project, where officers understand financial backing is in place'.

Applicant Onslow Suffolk first applied for outline planning approval for a mixed-use development in 2004. Following a public inquiry, permission was granted in 2008.

If reserved matters are approved as recommended, the entire facility could be in operation by the end of 2023.

The eight phases of reserved matters include final details of the complex, parking, ecology and structural landscape.
