New Bury Social Club, located at New Bury Community Centre in Bury St Edmunds, closes suddenly

A social club on an estate in Bury St Edmunds has closed.

The New Bury Social Club, located at the New Bury Community Centre on the Howard estate, shut last week.

In a statement, the trustees of the community centre said the social club had been run by the business The Ivy Social Club Ltd.

It said the trustees would now evaluate the best use of the space going forward.

“The social club's decision to close does not affect the running of the many day-to-day activities including the café in the New Bury Community Centre,” the trustees said. “It's business as usual at the centre.”

They stressed that the social club is a separate entity to the community centre.

The Ivy Social Club Ltd hired a space to run the social club there.

New Bury Community Centre manager and trustee Debbie Carthy said: “It’s a very sudden closure and we obviously need to look at it [the future of the social club space].”
