Jonathan Ferguson, 30, of Bury St Edmunds, part of the 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment based in Woodbridge, to take on St Edmunds trail ultramarathon at Ickworth Estate for EACH
A soldier will put his fitness to the test with an ultramarathon around a National Trust estate for a children’s charity.
Jonathan Ferguson, 30, of Bury St Edmunds, is part of the 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment based in Woodbridge, and will take on the St Edmunds trail ultramarathon at Ickworth Estate on December 1.
Jonathan, who has never run such a long distance before, said he has always wanted to raise money for a children’s charity, and will take on the challenge in aid of East Anglian Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The married dad-of-two’s preparation is going well however, and he is looking forward to the event.
“I like pushing myself, and this is definitely going to be a big test, as I’ve never done an ultramarathon before,” he said.
“However, I love a challenge and am pleased and proud to be supporting EACH.
“I’d be so grateful to anyone kind enough to sponsor me. Every pound is invaluable, truly makes a difference and will have a significant impact.”
Jonathan added EACH does ‘such incredible, meaningful work’ in supporting children and their families going through difficult times.

The St Edmunds trail also has half-marathon and marathon events the same day.
Jonathan’s 50 kilometre course will start at the estate and is mostly off-road initially on its all-weather track, before it leaves the park and heads toward Nowton.
He has raised £305 so far, with a target of £1,000.
