Combat2Coffee in Bury St Edmunds closes ‘until further notice’ as section of The Constitutional Club undergoes roof repairs

A not-for-profit coffee shop which supports veterans has had to close because asbestos was found in the venue where it operates.

Combat2Coffee which operates out of the Constitutional Club in Bury St Edmunds’ Guildhall Street told its followers on Facebook yesterday that it was close until further notice. However, the rest of The Constitutional Club remains open.

Combat2Coffee has also had to cancel its veterans’ breakfast on Saturday.

The roof over the kitchen of Combat2Coffee had problems with leaks and asbestos was discovered during the repairs.

Shop manager Lydia Granfield said: “We’re frustrated to say the least as we have 25-30 regular veterans we help out with anything that is concerning them plus it’s a safe space for them to share with friends and family.

“I feel very grateful to have met so many lovely people so I do feel guilty that we are unable to be there for them but the roof repair is essential works.”
