Star Wars actor to appear at grand opening of new tattoo and collectables shop in Bury St Edmunds
An artist is combining his passions by opening a new shop specialising in tattoos and collectables in Bury St Edmunds - with a Star Wars actor due to appear at its launch.
Gavin Rodrigues is opening Mr. Bulb Tattoos and Collectables, in St Andrew's Street South, on Saturday, January 25 and actor Benjamin Hartley, who appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as Cadet Harb Binli, will be its special guest.
The shop takes inspiration from the growing trend of tattoo artists working at comic and film conventions.
Mr Rodrigues, event manager for Cambridge Comic Con, said: "I've spent many years working in the tattoo industry and I've always had this thing for Marvel, comic books, film and TV - it's my real passion.
"I love art and tattooing but I wanted to take it one step further.
"There's such a close connection between tattooing and film and cinema.
"You see conventions where there are tattooists doing Star Wars and film and TV tattoos. It was a logical step."
He has been an artist for 35 years, a tattoo artist for 15 years and was assistant editor to the acting chief of Marvel UK in 1992, having recruited many big name Spanish comic book artists to the company.
As an artist, his work includes film and TV prints - some of which adorn the walls of the new shop and are for sale including a Buffy The Vampire Slayer piece commissioned by Nicholas Brendon who played Xander.
There is work for sale by his apprentice Delphine Maurette.
The shop also sells collectables, toys, props and independent comic books and Mr Rodrigues plans to run monthly art workshops.
The grand opening on Saturday runs from noon until late and a live podcast will be broadcast throughout the day.
Mr. Bulb Tattoos and Collectables is also on Facebook and Instagram.
