Fornham House Care Home, near Bury St Edmunds, opens new extension
An extension to a care home in Suffolk has officially opened its doors to residents.
Fornham House Care Home, situated in Fornham St Martin, welcomed residents to its new and extended dementia care ward this week.
Owned by the Healthcare Homes Group, the purpose-built extension can house a further 17 residents.
Katherine Foley, Fornham House's regional director, said: "The project took about a year. We were due to open last year, but because of Covid we delayed it, but it is lovely to have the unit open now.
"It's brilliant [to see residents] inside and have some life in the unit. Some of the residents were in the main house, so they have been waiting to move across into their new home."
Staff members were joined by former Dad's Army extra, Tim Ball, in opening the new extension.
Mr Ball has had a first-hand experience of the care offered by the home, with both of his parents having been residents.
"Sadly my father passed away in March 2020, but my mum is still here and is very happy and well looked after," he said.
"We have always been very happy with the care received by Fornham House, and certainly with the staff, who are always very attentive and have certainly looked after my parents very well.
"I think the new facility is absolutely exceptional. Obviously there is a need for it, and it is nice to see that the investment has been made into providing it for the people who need it."
Desiree Jooste, the house manager, added: "It's such a fantastic feeling [to have opened]. It's lovely that we have got our first residents in here.
"We have been waiting for it for a long time, and seeing the residents and how good they feel about the building means the world to me."
