Suffolk Fire called to Bardwell and Great Blakenham fires

A combine harvester fire was one of the incidences Suffolk Fire and Rescue Services had to deal with today.

The machinery fire, on a field in Stanton Road, Bardwell, was called in at 4.33pm.

When the three engines, two from Bury St Edmunds and one from Ixworth arrived on the scene the fire had spread to around three acres of the field.

The units, with the assistance of the farm staff ploughing around the affected area to keep it contained, stood down at 5.25pm.

Also this morning four engines, from Ipswich, Princes Street, Stowmarket and Elmswell, attended a fire at Sackers Yard, in Great Blakenham, near Needham Market.

The crews were called out at 11.07am, where a machinery and rubbish fire at the recycling waste centre had spread to a building on the site.

It had been reported that drivers could see the smoke from the incident from the A14.

The fire was finally dealt with and the units were stood down at 12.46pm.
