Cyclists turn out in force for a successful charity ride around the countryside

Hundreds of cyclists hit the road for picturesque routes through the countryside in aid of a good cause on Sunday.

Setting off from Nowton Park, the third West Suffolk Spin, in aid of My WiSH charity, was blessed with good weather and positive feedback from participants.

Paul Rayner, chairman of My WiSH charity’s special events committee, which organises the event, said it was a ‘brilliant’ day.

“It was well supported again and we had a great turnout. It was certainly as well supported as last year,” he said.

“Everybody had a good time.”

Paul praised the ‘beautiful’ 25, 50, 75 and 100-mile routes devised by Jamie Whiteman, of Revel Outdoors, bike shop, although he said he had never managed to actually cycle them.

“We have to sign them on the Saturday, putting all the direction signs up, so we see the route from a car instead of a bicycle, but it’s still lovely,” he said.

“We had fantastic weather for the Spin for the third year in a row. It was supposed to be wet and actually it was a blazing hot day.”

The amount raised is still being calculated, but it it should be a ‘reasonable amount’ according to Paul, who added the committee was planning a charity soapbox challenge later in the summer.
