The Rising Sun, in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, recognised with award from CAMRA West Suffolk and Borders branch
A recently opened town pub has continued its rise in stature after being recognised with a top accolade.
Only three months into its new life, The Rising Sun, in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, has been named Pub of the Winter Season by the CAMRA West Suffolk and Borders branch.
The venue, which was formerly Casa, was acquired by Burlison Inns last year, which restored its original name and reopened it as a wet-led pub.
Chris Bailey, chairman of the CAMRA West Suffolk and Borders branch, said: “To win this valued CAMRA award, CAMRA members reported that the Rising Sun is in an outstanding pub, that offers customers an environment where people can connect with others, whilst enjoying a wide range of beverages, including over 10 real ales on handpumps, served in perfect condition.
“The pub is warm, with friendly and knowledgeable staff and provides a safe place for all members of the community to relax and enjoy the comfortable and historic atmosphere of a lovely old building.”
Hannah Burlison, of Burlison Inns, said: "We’re delighted that our local CAMRA branch has recognised the hard work and dedication of our team. Over the past three months, we've proudly served more than 125 different draft beers.
“Our goal remains to uphold excellent standards and continue offering a diverse selection of premium drinks.
“Looking ahead, we’re excited to showcase the rest of the Six Nations in our Brewery Room on the big screen, and following that, explore the possibility of introducing a beer festival to further enhance the pub experience for our customers."
Gary Burlison, group director, had his mum pour the pub’s first pint when it opened.
It serves a wide range of cask ales, craft beer, draught lagers and real cyders and perriers to go with a vast spirits collection.
Gary said he wanted the pub to be something traditional.
The Rising Sun is Burlison Inns’ 15th venue. The group has been operating for 32 years, and its nearest pub to its new Bury site is in Cambridge.
