Suspended prison sentence for Bury St Edmunds man caught with pepper spray and extreme porn
A man caught in possession of a pepper spray and extreme pornography has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Percy Barber, 51, was arrested when police went to his home in York Close, Bury St Edmunds on June 16 last year.
Today (November 8), Ipswich Crown Court heard that officers discovered a pepper spray in a car parked outside while inside the property was a DVD containing extreme pornography. He told police he found the pepper spray in a skip at Barton Mills.
Barber said the DVD was given to him by someone in a pub, he had never watched it and planned to dispose of it.
Marc Brown, in mitigation, said Barber had not realised the pepper spray was illegal and never had any intention of using it.
Barber pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon capable of discharging a noxious liquid and possession of extreme pornography.
He was sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for 18 months, told to pay £200 in prosecution costs and take part in a 30 day rehabilitation activity programme.
