The Body Shop in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich could close as business enters administration

The Body Shop is to appoint administrators which could result in job losses and shop closures in Suffolk.

The beauty, skincare and body products chain has more than 200 shops across the UK including stores in Butter Market, Bury St Edmunds, and Tavern Street, Ipswich.

It has been revealed that the business had insufficient working capital and restructuring expert FRP Advisory is likely to be appointed as the administrator later this week.

This comes after a lacking Christmas and January period for the company.

The Body Shop employs 10,000 people with a further 12,000 staff through franchises in around 3,000 shops in more than 70 countries.

Many jobs could be at risk as the business focuses on reducing costs which could see high street stores close so the retailer can save on property and renting.

It is believed The Body Shop will be significantly restructured to better compete with brands like Lush which is popular with younger shoppers.
