Bury St Edmunds schoolchildren make 3D advent calendar to help business Hayward Moon dress its window for Christmas

Children from a primary school in Bury St Edmunds have 'excelled' at making a 3D advent calendar to support a business' efforts in the town's best-dressed Christmas window competition.

The pupils from St Edmunds RC Primary School in Westgate Street used their creativity and imagination to design and make the display that is on show at Hayward Moon's premises in Whiting Street.

The best-dressed Christmas window competition, by the town's BID (Business Improvement District) group Our Bury St Edmunds, runs until Sunday, December 4.

Jane Voce-Long, associate at Hayward Moon property lawyers, said the children had really made the 3D advent calendar idea 'come to life' and added: "They have truly excelled with this idea."

She said: "We love to get the children involved with our Christmas window because we believe that Christmas is for families and children. Once again, the children of St Edmunds Roman Catholic Primary School have helped us out.

"I gave the idea of what I wanted, and they have made it happen. We have paid for the materials used so the school is not out of pocket."

She said the children had enjoyed taking part and it had given them a sense of belonging and of being needed 'which we think are very important values to instil in our youth'.

"Once again, the children have blown me away with how talented they are," she added.

Maria Kemble, executive head at St Edmund's RC Primary School, said: "We were really pleased when Hayward Moon asked us to design and make their window again this year.

"The children in our after-school club have enjoyed making the items for the display and learnt some new sewing skills as part of the project. I am so proud of them for their creativity and imagination and think it looks wonderful.

"Huge thanks must go to the staff who helped them to complete the task and for the hard work of everyone involved. We hope lots of people will vote for us as well."
