Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich restaurants including Amigos, Gastrono-me and The Eaterie shortlisted for Food Awards England 2023




Eight restaurants, cafés and bakeries around Suffolk have made it to the finals of a prestigious award show which celebrates culinary excellence.

The Food Awards England 2023 is taking place tonight at the Birmingham city centre Holiday Inn and shortlisted businesses from Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich are in with a chance of winning.

The Eaterie in Ipswich, based out of the Salthouse Harbour Hotel, is up for Restaurant of The Year for its ‘earthy but elegant’ food style.

Meanwhile Bury St Edmunds restaurant Amigos is in for a chance of winning Best Mexican Establishment for a second year in a row following last year’s triumph.

The Brentgovel Street restaurant also saw recent success at The Prestige Awards where it was crowned Mexican Restaurant of the Year.

Other Bury St Edmunds businesses nominated include Gastrono-me which has been shortlisted for Best World Cuisine and The Friendly Loaf Bakery which could win Artisan Bakery of the Year.

Ipswich café Bicafé o Português in Norwich Road has been nominated for two awards including Café/Bistro of the Year and Dessert Outlet of the Year.

Other Ipswich nominees for Café/Bistro of the Year include Bistro On The Quay, Café at the Dance House and Waterfront Bistro.

A spokesperson for the Food Awards England said: “In a country with so many food establishments and businesses, it can be hard to stand out.

“However, the 2023 finalists have all been distinguished as the real masters in their field due to their hard work and dedication to customer satisfaction.

“Moreover, their success isn’t just about their dedication to leaving every customer satisfied. It’s also a story that reflects the resilience and creativity of countless chefs, producers, employees and managers who are always ensuring that locals and visitors eat well.
