Bury St Edmunds telephone marketing company VTM is celebrating its tenth anniversary and a national award

When people think of telephone marketing, they immediately bring to mind those anonymous calls - that leave you cold.

However, a Bury St Edmunds-based agency is changing all that with a fresh approach which has not only enabled them to grow - but also win a national award.

VTM, based at Park Farm Business Centre, Fornham St Genevieve, is today celebrating its tenth anniversary.

It marks a major milestone for managing director, Jo Withers, who started the business off from her kitchen table.

“We are celebrating our anniversary first with an adventure day at Go Ape and then all 12 of us are staying at a hotel over night,” said Mrs Withers

“We have a great team here at VTM and a unique approach to marketing, which is more natural than those who just do cold calling.

“Our method is more about making connections, in a nice way.”

VTM works with around 20 clients including, locally, Timberwolf woodchippers, West Suffolk College, Bluesys IT Service, and CLAAS UK.

It offers ‘bespoke’ packages to companies which can include market research, customer service, GDPR data cleansing, in which it ‘cleanses’ data lists from company to see who they might be able to contact within the industry guidelines.

VTM also take orders for some companies and promote brand awareness by making contact with others.

The mainstay of their work is business-to-business marketing, which VTM calls commercial telephone marketing.

“This job takes an open mind, a happy personality, quick thinking, and the ability to deal with different personalities,” said Mrs Withers.

“That along with commercial awareness.”

Earlier this year, VTM featured in a government feature about businesses who had successfully survived the pandemic.

It followed a ‘thank you’ video Mrs Withers made to West Suffolk Council for a grant she received to help with rent payments.

The company was also spotted by business publisher SME News. In May this year, VTM won the publisher’s UK Telephone Marketer of the Year Award.

“We have worked with some of our clients for more than six years and that way have really got to know their needs,” said Mrs Withers.

“We are currently recruiting and looking to take on another eight staff over the next two years. Here’s to the next 10 years.”
