Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds announces ticket offer to National Lottery players

A town theatre is offering a free ticket when lottery customers purchase tickets to some of their performances.

The Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds is taking part in the Love Your Local Theatre campaign with UK Theatre.

When lottery customers by tickets for performances in March for Home I'm darling, the Bone Sparrow or When the Long Trick's Over, they will get another ticket free courtesy of the National Lottery.

The Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is offering a free ticket to National Lottery customers who purchase tickets to some of their performances.

This is because the National Lottery is subsidising over 180,000 tickets at theatres across the UK to thank lottery players for the £30million they raise each week for good causes - including arts and theatre.

It is also part of an initiative to encourage people to support their local theatres across the UK and help venues recover in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Owen Calvert-Lyons, Theatre Royal artistic director said: "Here at Theatre Royal we have been open to the public again since May 2021 and have been delighted to welcome so many audiences back to the theatre following the pandemic.

Owen Calvert-Lyons, artistic director at the Theatre Royal hopes the initiative will be a 'nudge' to theatre goers.

"We know however that, for some, the habit of planning and booking theatre trips has not yet returned so we are hope that this great offer from The National Lottery will give them the nudge they need to remind themselves of the joys of live theatre.

“We have some great dramas on our stage in March including our own production of Laura Wade’s Home, I’m Darling. This is only the third professional production of this play in the country so to be able to include this in the 2-4-1 ticket offer will mean even more people in Bury St Edmunds and beyond will be able to enjoy this clever comedy.”
