A ‘talented’ young cast and crew are preparing to stage a timeless musical at their school.
Next week is show week for Thurston Community College, near Bury St Edmunds, as a cast and crew of around 70 bring Annie Jr to audiences.
This lower school production is running from Tuesday, July 1, to Friday, July 4, and tickets are available here.
Annie Jr tells the story of Annie, a plucky orphan living in a tough orphanage during the Great Depression.
This abridged version of the musical explores themes of hope and resilience, as her unwavering optimism ultimately leads her to a better life.
Natasha Barnes-Smith, head of performing arts at Thurston Community College, said: “This production has been particularly special.
“With over 300 Key Stage 3 students auditioning, selecting the cast was the most challenging experience of my teaching career to date.
“The courage, determination, and maturity shown by every student, whether cast or not, has been both humbling and heartbreaking. I’m immensely proud of each and every one of them.
“Our young cast and crew have poured their hearts into this show. Their energy, talent, and teamwork are extraordinary.”
Based on Harold Gray’s beloved comic strip, Annie became a global sensation and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
It features the iconic song ‘Tomorrow’ by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin.
