Thetford play hut could be saved- for now
A Thetford children’s hut set for demolition could be saved for the time being.
Residents of a block on Ash Close were sent letters by Breckland Council asking for it to be taken down as it was on its land. But now a licence could be agreed for up to two years.
A Breckland Council spokesperson said: “We are speaking to residents to try to find a solution that meets the needs of the community, while addressing the legal responsibilities.
We don’t want to ruin anybody’s fun, but as landowner, the council has a duty of care to anyone on our land or property.”
The agreement calls for six-monthly inspections from Breckland Council to check on the safety for users and says the owner of the hut must take out public liability insurance.
Councillor Chris Harvey said: “I really hope that common sense can prevail on both sides, and this community asset can stay.”
