A hands-on science fair which will be open to the public is coming to Thetford Grammar School in October.

Kinetic Science, an innovative science and maths charity, is working with the school to bring the free event to the town.

On Saturday, October 13, from 10am to 1pm, people will get the chance to take part in activities such as creating and launching a mini rocket, making a traffic light in a test tube and, for younger children, an under 4s zone to learn more about the subject.

Michael Brewer, headmaster at the school, said: “Thetford Grammar School is proud to host the Kinetic Science Fair as part of our Open Day activities.

“We hope that the local community will come and join in with this celebration of the importance of scientific education. As part of our ongoing commitment to raising the profile of science for girls and boys of all ages, and our commitment to working more closely with the town of Thetford, this partnership with Kenetic is an incredibly exciting venture. We warmly welcome all families to visit us and further their love of science.”

The Kinetic Science Foundation, based in Stowmarket, works to inspire students with science outreach workshops like the October event as well as having their own interactive science centre.

The activities will show real-life application to science with the hope it will get more students into STEM careers, as it is estimated there are more than 1.2 million job vacancies currently in the STEM area.
