A Thetford runner has completed the Chicago Marathon and added to her set of world major marathon medals.

Melanie Sturman finished her 233rd event on Sunday and did it in her best time for 11 months, with four hours and 58 minutes.

She said: “It is just absolutely brilliant to get four of the six under my belt and to do it with a sub five-hour time is just great too.”

The runner had already completed the London, Berlin and New York events before this and now has only Tokyo and Boston to do to complete all of the world’s major marathon events.

Mel said she found the Chicago run a nice spacious run to do, even though it rained heavily about 10 miles in.

She said: “The support we got from everyone on the route was amazing, it was a massive party atmosphere really.”

The Chicago Marathon saw a record number of runners finish this year, with more than 100 different nationalities taking part.
