Debenhams confirms closing date for Bury St Edmunds store

A closing date has been confirmed for Debenhams in Bury St Edmunds.

The store, in the arc shopping centre, will shut its doors for the final time on Saturday, May 8.

As the department store clears the last of its remaining stock, discounts including up to 80 per cent off fashion and home and at least 50 per cent off everything still left will come into effect from tomorrow.

The Bury St Edmunds branch is among 25 Debenhams stores to close on May 8.

The company is in its final chapter on the high street after the Boohoo Group paid £55 million to buy the collapsed 242-year-old brand out of liquidation but the deal excluded its shops.

The Ipswich branch will close on Tuesday, May 4 and all remaining stores are expected to shut by May 15.

A spokesman said: "Our stock is flying off the shelves and it’s no surprise with such great bargains available.

"Time is running out for shoppers to take advantage of the incredible discounts being offered at these 25 stores."

Earlier this month, shoppers queued outside Debenhams in Bury St Edmunds for the start of its closing down sale.
