The Corn Exchange Wetherspoon in Bury St Edmunds submits bid to serve drinks later at night
A town centre Wetherspoon has submitted a licensing bid to serve drinks later at night for most of the week.
J D Wetherspoon plc submitted a licensing application to West Suffolk Council to extend the licensing hours on several days for The Corn Exchange, in Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds.
If approved, the pub would be allowed to serve drinks for an extra 30 minutes, until midnight, Sunday to Wednesday, Thursday to Saturday until 1am.
It followed a planning bid to extend the opening hours, which was approved by the authority in March, but warranted further licensing permission to allow the sale of alcohol for longer.
Currently, the pub is allowed to open to customers between 7am and midnight, Sunday to Thursday, and 7am to 1.30am, Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, trading can only happen between 8am and 11.30pm, Sunday to Wednesday, until midnight on Thursdays, and until 12.30am Fridays and Saturdays.
In March, the council's report concluded although the plans for extended opening could generate extra noise and disturbance, the extension was reasonable and would give the business increased flexibility.
If approved, the new opening hours would be extended to 12.30am Sunday to Wednesday, and 1.30am Thursday to Saturday.
Representations can be submitted via the council's website until June 3.
