A Thetford tournament computer gamer is set to host what is believed will be the single largest offline esports tournament in the East of England.

Tom Scott, who has hosted major competitions for the fighting game ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ in places including Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium, will be bringing his next one to The Carnegie in the town on March 5.

There will be 128 entrants taking part, after registration for the event filled up in 19 minutes, with more than 70 others on a waiting list.

Tom said: “It is very promising that despite not being in one of the major cities like these large events usually are there was such a demand for players from around the country to make their way to Thetford for an esports event.”

Called ‘Tea Party’ it will see a single player competition as well as a 24 two player team tournament, with top UK players signed up such as Peli (ranked 69th globally, eighth in Europe), Bloom4eva (ranked 91st globally, 15th in Europe) and Luugi (ranked 128th globally, 23rd in Europe).

The top player in the Middle East, Emass, and Denmark’s number one ranked player, HOPE, will also be there.

Tom said: “The calibre of players is genuinely insane. I have not hosted an event since 2019 and most thought I had quit. But hearing about this a lot of the older, more experienced and more skilled players have jumped at the chance to attend again and I hope we will carve out a regular tournament series here.”

Tea Party tickets are sold out to view the event live, but it will be broadcast all day long on twitch.tv/datteamlive starting at 11am.
