Bury St Edmunds Town Council objects to Blue Bear self-storage yard plans at site of Van Master, in Barton Road

A town council has objected to plans for a new self-storage yard at the site of a van dealership.

Bury St Edmunds Town Council recommended the proposals to convert the Van Master, in Barton Road, to a Blue Bear storage yard for refusal.

It cited issues with the design and appearance of the project, inappropriate development in a retail area and the potential for increase traffic generation.

The proposals, which were validated by West Suffolk Council on June 19, would see the site converted to house around 1,800 square metres of self-storage containers and associated works including the demolition and replacement of office space, car parking and landscaping.

The containers would be laid over two levels, with the ground floor housing 12 larger units and the upper floor 20 smaller units.

The yard would be accessible from 6am to 8pm seven days a week, and have 24-hour CCTV.

The development would create jobs for one full-time and two part-time employees.

The site would have parking space for 12 vehicles and five bicycles.

Security fencing around the yard’s perimeter would be 2.4 metres high and would be accessed via a two metre high sliding security gate.

There are no third party objections to the proposals at present.
