Advertisement plans at Esso Garage, in Tollgate Lane, Bury St Edmunds, which sparked mixed views abandoned
A town fuel station’s advertisement plans which sparked mixed views have been abandoned.
SuffolkNews reported on Thursday the proposals for a five-metre high EV pole sign at the Esson Garage, in Tollgate Lane, Bury St Edmunds, had received a mixed reception.
While Bury Town Council had expressed its support for the application and recommended it be approved, a Hanover Close resident said it needed to be rejected.
The plans were withdrawn on Thursday.
The totem would have followed MFG’s branding; its logo would have been at the bottom, in the middle text reading ‘EV Power: Super Fast Charging’ while at the top would have been a plug and lead-style illustration.
The Hanover Close resident said the plans did not give details on the intensity and spread of the proposed sign’s illumination and how long it would have been on per day.
They highlighted dangers caused to residents by actions at the garage from drivers, including perceived illegal use by drivers who park to consume goods from the Greggs, sat-nav misdirection caused by poorly positioned and vague signage and people trying to circumnavigate the Tollgate roundabout.
A reason for the withdrawal of the plans was not given.
