Bury St Edmunds flooding sees firefighters attend multiple incidents




Firefighters have been called to multiple incidents of flooded properties and a car stuck in water in Bury St Edmunds following heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service has been called to incidents in St Andrew's Street North, Northgate Street, Bedingfeld Way, Risbygate Street (A1302), Bury Park Drive, Southgate Street (Westgate Street) and Springfield Road in Bury St Edmunds since about 6am.

A spokeswoman said they all involved properties being flooded and advice was offered over the electrics.

In Northgate Street, Suffolk Highways was called to clear the drains and firefighters helped to siphon away the water.

Meanwhile they were called at 7.13am to a vehicle caught in flood water in Compiegne Way.

It follows heavy thunderstorms and rain this morning.

Glasswells, in Newmarket Road, has also been hit by flooding.

Residents on the Howard Estate have also been clearing up flood water.

Weatherman Chris Page said some places in the East of England were recording their entire August rainfall in just one day.
