Bury St Edmunds’ champions wanted as deadline looms for Bury Free Press Community Awards
The search is on for community champions across Bury St Edmunds — but time is running out to get your nominations in for this year’s Community Awards.
Organised by the Bury Free Press in partnership with the town council, the awards celebrate the volunteers, fund-raisers and unsung heroes who go above and beyond to support the town.
Among last year’s winners was Charity of the Year, Bury St Edmunds Rickshaw — a free service run entirely by volunteers, offering trips for elderly and disabled residents, including care home visits and a wheelchair-accessible rickshaw.
Trustee Amanda Martin said the award win helped boost the charity’s profile.
She said: “Not only are we always looking for people to use our services, but we’re also constantly seeking new volunteers — and winning last year’s award definitely helped more people discover exactly what we do.”
The charity has since teamed up with the Bury Tour Guides to support dementia-friendly walking tours of Abbeygate Street which are designed to trigger memories through shopfronts and familiar sights.
Nominations are open until Wednesday, July 30 at: iliffemediapromotions.co.uk/bury-community-awards/nominate/
All the winners and those who will be highly commended will be announced at a ceremony at the town’s Guildhall on September 11.
