Poppy Appeal launched with ceremony at The Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds




The Bury St Edmunds branch of the Royal British Legion has launched its annual Poppy Appeal.

The ceremony took place at The Guildhall on Saturday, marking the start of the annual campaign with a small gathering organised by the town’s poppy appeal coordinator Jacqui Bates.

It was attended by representatives from the Army Cadet Force, RAF Honington, the Royal British Legion and town mayor Diane Hind who was presented with the first poppy of the appeal.

The event highlighted the importance of remembrance and the welfare of the Armed Forces with the poppy serving as a symbol of sacrifice and remembrance for over a century.

Nigel Wolstenholme, chairman of the Bury branch of the Royal British Legion, said, “The service went really, really well.

“It’s so important to remember all those who put themselves at risk to ensure our lives are comfortable.”

“Each year, this is a small way of showing our appreciation for the sacrifices our Armed Forces make to keep us, and everyone we know, safe.

“They are a vital asset to the country.”
