Aldi, in Dettingen Way, Bury St Edmunds, looking to install new refrigeration and energy equipment

A town supermarket is looking to install new refrigeration and energy equipment.

ALDI Stores Ltd has applied to West Suffolk Council for replacement refrigeration plant equipment and four air source heat pumps and associated infrastructure for its Dettingen Way, Bury St Edmunds outlet.

The replacement fridge equipment would be more energy efficient and the heat pumps would enable part of the energy used for the store to be from a low-carbon source.

The refrigeration infrastructure comprises a gas cooler, refrigeration pack and two different condensing units.

Under the proposals, the area where this equipment is at present would be extended by 10sqm to accomodate the updated infrastructure.

This would require some soft landscaping replacement and the removed of two young trees to make way for hardstanding surfaces.

A decision on the plans is due by June 13.
