Traffic chaos on A14 after crashes involving eight vehicles

Diversions are in place on the A14 following two accidents involving eight vehicles near Kentford.

Police received reports of a four-vehicle collision on the westbound carriageway of the A14, half a mile before Kentford, at 1.25pm.

Three minutes later, they received reports of another crash in the tailback caused by the first crash, also involving four vehicles.

A silver Corsa, blue Mercedes minibus, silver VW Golf and black Vauxhall Ampera were involved in the first accident while a black Ford Focus, black Mini, silver Mercedes S350 and a blue Volvo V40 were involved in the second one.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) said they were called to a multi-vehicle collision on the A14 at Kentford at 1.28pm.

He said: “An ambulance crew, two ambulance officers and a rapid response vehicle attended. One patient, described as walking wounded, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for further treatment.”

Then at 1.31pm they were called to another crash on the A14 at Kentford, a quarter of a mile away from the original crash.

The EEAST spokesman said: “A paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer attended to a woman with neck pain and a woman with wrist pain. They were assessed at the scene, but did not require treatment or transport to hospital.”

Traffic is being diverted from the Westley Interchange at junction 42 of the A14 to the B1106.

A police spokesman said one lane of the A14 reopened at 2.45pm and recovery vehicles were on their way.
