Travellers pitch up on Tollgate Playing Fields at Howard Estate in Bury St Edmunds
Travellers have pitched up on a park on a Bury St Edmunds estate.
West Suffolk Council said it was aware that nine caravans, three motorhomes and nine cars have set up on the Tollgate Playing Fields at the Howard Estate.
A resident said they were concerned about the situation and questioned how the Travellers had managed to make their way onto the fields.
A council spokesperson said: “We and Traveller welfare will be speaking to the families to check their needs and assist with the proper disposal of any waste.
“We manage this public open space and will be looking to get it back to its community use as soon as we can, following the legal process.”
Last month, Travellers were on Stoke-by-Clare Playing Field as well as land off Lady Miriam Way, on the Moreton Hall Estate, in Bury St Edmunds, and the Haughley George V Playing Field.
