Bury St Edmunds-based head of multi media news at Bury Free Press and SuffolkNews scoops NCTJ's Chairman's Award




A newsroom hero at the Bury Free Press and SuffolkNews, based in Bury St Edmunds, has been recognised for his role in training the next generation of journalists.

Paul Derrick, head of multi media news, scooped the Chairman’s Award at the NCTJ’s annual Awards for Excellence at Twickenham Stadium on Thursday.

The award celebrates an individual’s outstanding contribution to high standards of journalism training.

The accolade was presented by John Ryley, head of Sky News, who said Paul represented 'hundreds of unsung heroes and heroines in the newsroom'.

At the ceremony, reporters Tamika Green and Sam Harrison were also shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year and the Podcast Journalism Award respectively.
