Schools in Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket donate to foodbanks as part of harvest festivals
Schools have been thanked by foodbanks for their ‘fabulous’ harvest donations.
As part of its harvest festival, pupils at Trinity CEVA Primary School, in Stowmarket, collected food and toiletries that were donated to Stowmarket Foodbank.
The harvest festival service took place at St Mary’s Church, in Combs, which was a ‘joyous’ occasion filled with song, poetry, and gratitude.
During the festival, the pupils showcased their knowledge of food miles and the hard work of farmers, and also recognised the efforts of their parents in providing food for their families.
Headteacher Linda Curran-Spain said: “The harvest festival is a cherished event at our school, where our pupils come together to express their gratitude and contribute to the wellbeing of those in need.
“We are proud of our pupils’ efforts and the positive impact they have made on the local community.”
Mike Smith, from Stowmarket Foodbank, added: “Thank you to everyone at Trinity CEVAP for your fabulous harvest donation, which came to 90kg - truly amazing.”
Meanwhile, South Lee Prep School & Nursery, in Bury St Edmunds, has held its annual Pre-Prep Harvest Festival, a celebration that brought together parents, pupils and staff.
Parents enjoyed a ‘delightful’ performance by children from Pre-School to Year 3, showcasing their talents through songs and prayers.
The school thanked all the parents who generously donated food items to the Gatehouse foodbank.
A representative from Gatehouse said: “The support we receive from South Lee Prep School is invaluable.
“The donations collected during the harvest festival will significantly help families facing food insecurity, ensuring they have access to essential items.
“We are incredibly thankful for the school’s commitment to making a difference.”
The school’s head Sarah Catchpole said: “The harvest festival is a really lovely tradition at South Lee Prep, and it is wonderful to see our young pupils embrace the spirit of giving.”
She added: “By encouraging our children to understand the importance of supporting others, we help them develop into compassionate individuals who are aware of the needs of those around them.”
