Giant sun sculpture will be displayed at Ickworth Estate, near Bury St Edmunds, the National Trust confirms

A giant sun sculpture will be displayed at Ickworth Estate this week, it has been confirmed.

Helios, created by Luke Jerram, arrived at the National Truest estate, in Horringer near Bury St Edmunds, last Thursday.

The 7-metre spherical sculpture was installed as part of a national tour and was scheduled to be enjoyed by visitors over two weekends, starting last Friday.

However, due high wind speeds, the installation had to be cancelled over the bank holiday weekend and will remain closed tomorrow.

With better weather forecast for this weekend, the trust has announced Helios will be on display from Friday to Sunday, with two additional late-night openings on both Friday and Saturday until 9.30pm.

The sculpture combines the sound of the sun created by NASA and can be found in front of Ickworth’s Rotunda.

Helios’ arrival marks its first visit to Suffolk and the first time it will be exhibited outside.

The trust said there are strict rules around wind speeds for displaying the sculpture.

Booking is no longer required.
