VIDEO: West Suffolk couple receive ‘amazing’ gift from ITV’s Lorraine

A West Suffolk couple who’s struggle to have a baby caught the attention of ITV’s Lorraine Kelly have received an ‘amazing’ gift from the show.

Kate Oakley, from Ixworth Thorpe, first appeared on chat show Lorraine last year as part of the programme’s Change One Thing Initiative.

The 34-year old shared her desire to lose weight and become healthier in an attempt to improve her and husband Chris’ chances of conceiving, after three years of trying unsuccessfully.

Last Thursday the couple were visited again by an ITV film crew and Victoria Milligan, a regular Lorraine guest and Kate’s mentor, who revealed the show is going to fund private fertility treatment for them.

“It is fantastic, absolutely amazing,” said Kate, who was surprised at her workplace, Toni and Guy in Bury, by Chris and the film crew.

“We’ve been trying for three years and we’re really no further forward. This will be a move forward, it gives you a better insight into your chances.”

Chris and Kate had previously visited the Zita West Fertility Clinic in London, but Kate said this new batch of tests will be more ‘a lot more in-depth’.

“It is something we’ve been looking into, but it is hugely expensive. It’s the sort of thing they you have to continue with once you start,” she said.

“The fact that ITV have just said, ‘We’ll sort this out for you’ is amazing.

“It’s come a lot sooner than we thought it would. We want to get the treatment arranged as soon as possible. I’m mindful of my age, I’ll soon be 36 and then things in fertility tend to reduce.”

Since first appearing on Lorraine in January, Kate said she has lost 2.5 stone, adding that she would like to double this amount.

“I’ve been on and off diets my whole life but never really learnt anything. With quick-fix diets you are not reeducating yourself at all,” she said.

“Even though I have a long way to go, I feel like this is my life now.”
