‘Vital improvement works’ to Hempyard Bridge, in Ixworth, well under way
‘Vital improvement works’ to a village bridge are well under way.
Suffolk Highways recently started construction to repair Hempyard Bridge, in Ixworth, which is used by pedestrians and horse riders.
The agency said it is ‘delighted’ with the progress made so far to the ‘vital improvement works’ and extended its thanks to the community for their patience while the works are carried out.
At present, construction on the western side of the bridge structure is ongoing.
Once this is completed, the watercourse dam will be moved to the eastern side of the bridge – this is planned for early September.
Suffolk Highways has installed new foundations on the southwestern corner of the bridge, which it has also partially reconstructed.
It said this will help to reinforce the structure.
Temporary props remain in place to support the brick arches during the refurbishment works.
