Want beer at BK? You got it! Bury St Edmunds leads the way...

A popular Bury St Edmunds fast food restaurant could soon be serving beer with its hamburgers after submitting a licensing application to the borough council.

Burger King, in St Andrew’s Street South, is one of four BK restaurants in the country hoping to include beer on their menu by the end of November. The others are Blackpool, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Hull.

Applicant CPL Foods Ltd is proposing to sell alcohol ‘for consumption on the premises only’ from 10am-11pm Monday-Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the company said they were ‘excited’ about being asked to launch the scheme which was already working well in BK restaurants overseas.

“It’s very successful everywhere else so we’re just catching up with the rest of the world really,” she said.

If the license is granted, she said Bury BK would only serve beer in plastic bottles.

“It’ll probably be an American beer to fall in line with the brand,” she added.

Bury was among eight towns chosen to trial free BK home deliveries earlier this year.
