Hawstead's Great War Huts Museum to host Gallipoli Day event
A Hawstead World War One museum is hosting a one-off event on Sunday to mark the sacrifices of British servicemen on the Turkish outpost of Gallipoli in 1915.
The Great War Huts Museum, off Bells Lane, features a collection of old military huts rescued from around the country, restored and put to new use as the focal point of the interactive museum.
On Sunday, the museum is offering an opportunity to explore the site as part of a special event to mark Gallipoli Day, when the British servicemen who fell during the ill-fated campaign are remembered.
The gates will open at 1.30pm on Sunday for people to have a look around and chat to volunteers.
There will then be a performance by the award-winning folk song and storytelling collective Harp and a Monkey, who will perform songs and stories from their acclaimed ‘War Stories’ show.
Dr Martin Purdy, who fronts Harp and a Monkey, said: “This is going to be a really fascinating afternoon that is suitable for all age groups.”
Tickets cost £12 and can be purchased on the door or in advance from https://www.greatwarhuts.org/events
