Warning issued to Suffolk businesses after reports of businesses being approached by individuals claiming to fill potholes
Suffolk Trading Standards have issued a warning after receiving reports of businesses in the county being approached by individuals claiming to be able to fill potholes.
One business which agreed to the work found the traders tarmacing their whole car park and when approached, the trader became aggressive with threats made to the business owner and demanded £10,000 in cash.
Due to the fear and intimidation, the Suffolk business agreed to pay £6,500 in cash.
A Suffolk pub was targeted by the rogues who approached when the landlord was busy.
The rogues advised they had been sent by the brewery and as such the landlord agreed to them starting work.
When the landlord checked on the trader they found the trader was recovering the whole car park in tarmac.
The landlord queried the work and the trader then became aggressive, demanding £1,600 in cash.
The landlord refused to pay but has since received intimidating telephone calls, with threats to return to dig up the car park.
If you are approached, check with your brewery before agreeing to any work starting and report all rogue traders to Trading Standards via 0808 223 1133.
Businesses should contact police on 999 if they are being subjected to any threats from such a trader.
