Bury St Edmunds' Abbeygate Sixth Form students perform Christmas concert at Arc shopping centre

A group of 20 musicians from a Suffolk college performed a concert to raise money for a good cause.

Pupils from Abbeygate Sixth Form College in Bury St Edmunds – known as the 'sound collective' – had shoppers at the Arc shopping centre shuffling to the beat last Wednesday to raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice.

The team belted out a medley of festive classics outside the Apex theatre, hoping to beat last year's £200.

The total has not yet been calculated, but they have raised more than £100.

Abbeygate music teacher Hayley Robinson, said: “This was a great chance for us to get out in to the community and it helps raise the profile of our musicians.

“Not only that, we get to raise money for a great local cause and students get a flavour of what it’s like to be a gigging musician.

"It was also great to put some smiles on the faces of shoppers on a cold winter’s day.

“Last year we raised around £200.

"The money raised for this year is currently being totalled - the aim is to match or beat last years total.”
