Sainsbury's in Bury St Edmunds closed due to flooding as videos show deluge in Northgate Street and Risbygate Street

A Bury St Edmunds supermarket has been shut today due to flooding which also hit properties across the town following heavy rainfall.

A sign at Sainsbury's, in Bedingfeld Way, said the store was closed due to flooding.

It follows a massive downpour earlier this morning with areas of the East of England receiving their entire August rainfall in just one day.

Firefighters were called to multiple incidents of flooded properties and a car stuck in water.

Meanwhile, Glasswells, in Newmarket Road, was also hit by flooding.

On Bury's Howard estate, residents cleared away flood water by unblocking drains.
