Claire’s House, in Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmunds, will be moving to a new location ‘slightly on the outskirts’ of town, this summer
A popular pottery studio and shop will be moving to a new location.
Claire’s House, currently based in Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmunds, will be moving to a new venue, ‘slightly on the outskirts’ of town, this summer.
Owner, Claire Douglas, made the announcement via newsletter and social media - but is keeping the new venue under wraps, for the time being.
She wrote: “This journey started with just me having a dream of opening a pottery studio and in just 18 months we have grown into a wonderful community with our team here growing too.
“We have been keeping a big secret here at Claire’s House, but as we now have firm plans, we are so excited to announce we are going to be moving premises.
“This will not happen until the summer and lots of preparing and planning will be taking place before then, but as many of you know we were seriously running out of room here in our beautiful Churchgate Street studio.
“The new studio is still in Bury St Edmunds - slightly on the outskirts which means there is parking.
“It will also mean more opportunities for classes, workshops and events, so feel free to share any ideas you have.
“More details will follow with all our plans and more information on the new studio itself so watch this space.
Claire launched Claire’s House in December 2022.
The former King Edward VI School art teacher had hoped to open just a studio to teach classes, which she had been doing at home since the previous July.
But after moving to Churchgate Street, realised it was big enough for a shop as well.
Claire not only sells her own range of pottery and ceramics, but also stocks the work of local arts.
She also hold regular workshops, courses and classes.
She says the art of pottery is relaxing, mindful and good for clearing the mind, apart from being ‘messy fun’.
The shop currently sells items including mugs, bowls, wax burners and plates, as well as lifestyle products including jewellery and hair accessories.
There are also art prints, decorations, candles and fragrance.
Classes include pottery wheel throwing, hand-building, pottery painting and other creative disciplines.
Claire added on Facebook: “Our new studio will be even bigger for more pottery throwing, trimming, painting, smooshing and squishing than ever.”
