“We love what we do here and being nominated for these awards really means a lot to me with this small business,” he said.

“We can’t thank people enough for getting us past the initial nominations and now we are up against some brilliant other shops.

“Honestly we’ve been utterly blown away and overwhelmed by the support we’ve received and we just can’t get our head around it.

“We’ve got such an amazing loyal customer base who have really got behind us.”

Mr Doherty, who has worked in the meat industry for more than 30 years, added: “I didn’t think we’d get this far.

“We were surprised to even be nominated as we didn’t know anything about it, so to now maybe go on and win would be simply incredible.”

The other shops shortlisted include Little Gems (Southwold), Johnson's of Old Hurst (Huntingdon), Friday Street Farm Shop (Farnham), and Two Sevens Deli (Sudbury).
