Gees Gees Ranch, near Bury St Edmunds, launches search for new land as it seeks to grow its animal rescue, therapy and education
An animal rescue, therapy and education organisation in Sicklesmere, near Bury St Edmunds, has launched a search for new land as it seeks to expand and grow.
Gee Gees Ranch, a not for profit community interest company based in Hawstead Lane, is appealing for landowners who might be able to help to get in touch.
The ranch – which is home to more than 100 rescued animals, including 11 horses and ponies, two donkeys, around 20 goats, 24 sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens and a host of small animals – offers education, work experience and wellbeing sessions.
Laura Graham, who runs Gee Gees with her husband Rob, said top of the wishlist for the new land was running water and at least 13 acres, ideally in west Suffolk.
“We are being contacted by lots of alternative education providers about running sessions, but we haven’t the capacity where we are,” said Laura.
“We want to do more with wellbeing/therapy, animal education and open days to help us to generate income, so we need a site where we can apply for planning permission.
“We love the land that we are on, but we feel because we haven’t got running water it is really blocking us from growing.”
While running water is top of the wish list, Laura said electricity, a barn, outbuildings or shelters would be ‘amazing’.
“It is clear that we now need to take a leap of faith on to bigger and better things. It is an exciting but daunting prospect,” added Laura.
