Year 6s from Ixworth CE Primary School raise money for leavers activities including donation from World of Play

Primary school pupils have been swimming, baking and making to raise funds for their leavers activities.

The Year 6 class, called Eagles, from Ixworth CE Primary School, near Bury St Edmunds, have raised more than £800 in total, which will go towards a trip to a trampoline park in Ipswich and other surprises.

Pupils kicked off their fundraising week with a splash when two of their classmates, Mia Bates and Leila Hayward, competed a 2.5km sponsored swim in one hour 40 minutes and raised an ‘amazing’ £320.

Louise Mason, owner of award-winning business World Of Play in Ixworth, hosted a special two-hour after-school play session and donated all the monies from this, £200, to the funds.

Finally, the Eagles pupils baked cakes and cookies, made fudge, dog treats and bracelets and hosted a ‘hugely successful’ bake sale event at the village hall.

Maddie McHenry and Karen Todd, Ixworth Primary School governors, said: “Despite the rain, school mates and members of the local community queued out the door and supported the sale. An amazing £241 was raised. Well done all!”

The whole-class trip to Jump Warehouse will take place in the last week of term and other surprises will also be revealed.
