This week’s petrol and diesel prices across Suffolk, including in Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Mildenhall and Stowmarket

This week, the average price of unleaded at the pumps nationally is 150.12p and diesel is 158.13p – but are we paying more or less than the average in Suffolk?

SuffolkNews conducted a survey on Wednesday – using data from petrolprices.com – to see what drivers in the county are paying at the pumps. The results might surprise you.

Anyone heading on a long journey might want to plan their petrol stops, as nationally the average prices for fuel at motorway service areas is 170.4p/179.5p. But are we paying more or less in Suffolk?

We found that on the whole drivers in the county are getting a better deal than the national picture – but you may have to hunt in specific places for cheaper fuel (hint: head for Woolpit).

And according to our survey the prices at Shell in Needham Market are among the highest in the county.

In Bury St Edmunds, the cheapest place to fill up is ASDA, at 145.7p per litre unleaded/154.7p per litre diesel, closely followed by Tesco and Sainsbury’s at 145.9p/154.9p.

Shell, in Newmarket Road, is still charging 154.9p/164.9p, making it the priciest filling station in town this week.

But head out of town to Woolpit if you want what we think could be the cheapest fuel in the county, as its Murco, in Old Stowmarket Road, is charging 140.9p/147.9p.

In the Brandon area, drivers will pay 148.9p/158.9p at BP stations in London Road, Brandon, and in Weeting.
