South Lee Prep School in Bury St Edmunds plants nearly 200 trees provided by Woodland Trust as part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative
Every child in a Bury St Edmunds school has planted a tree to mark the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Following on from South Lee Prep School's Jubilee celebrations in May, they are excited to have planted nearly 200 trees provided by the Woodland Trust to form a hedge that will provide year-round colour.
The Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting at the school links to its Forest School area providing a 'wonderful wildlife corridor'.
"This beautiful hedge, providing an important habitat for birds, small mammals and invertebrates, is part of our commitment to the environment," the school said.
Every child in the school from nursery to Year 8 planted a tree, as well as all the staff members.
They were visited last month by Deputy Lieutenant Diana Hunt, the Suffolk Lieutenancy’s co-ordinator for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
The tree planting was completed this term.
