A young magician was overjoyed when he met his hero at the world’s largest magic convention.
Talented James Samuel who has been performing magic professionally since he was 12 years old, met fellow magician and TV presenter Stephen Mulhern at the convention in Blackpool last month.
The starstruck St Benedict’s Catholic School pupil was so inspired meeting the man who originally inspired him to take up magic, he went onto the levitateanother convention guests, 3ft in the air.
“There were around 3,500 people at the convention, so I was amazed to see Stephen and also a little starstruck,” said James, 17, from Thetford.
“It was watching his Tricky TV show when I was around 4-years-old that inspired me to take up magic and I told him how grateful I was.
“He wished me good luck with the magic in the future and was pleased that his show a decade ago had meant so much.”
James, who regularly performs at private shows, weddings and parties both locally and nationally, attended the convention for four days.
Magicians and magic fans fly from all over the world attend the event as well as perform, talk magic, buy and swap tricks.
James, who is the youngest ever member of the Ipswich Magic Society, has also appeared on CBBC and Sky TV, and took part in the convention Fism, which is dubbed the ‘Magicians’ Olympics’ with non-stop performances.
He also met magician Lance Corporal Richard Jones, the last winner of Britains Got Talent.
“I performed some tricks andmanaged to levitate someone about 3ft in the air at the convention,” added James.
“But of course, I can’t say how I did it.”
