Everything you need to know about Christmas Spectacular Bury St Edmunds set to launch at rugby club




A massive new festive event is set transform a town’s rugby club into a winter wonderland over three weekends.

Christmas Spectacular Bury St Edmunds will be arriving at the Haberden rugby club for the first time this year, from November 29 .

The outdoor festive event includes activities for the whole family, including an ice skating rink, fairground rides, aprés ski big top, magical Santa’s grotto, a Christmas cinema for children, live shows, DJs and performers.

There is also a chance for families to meet reindeer, explore seasonal stalls, enjoy festive food and drinks and let the little ones have their faces painted.

Here are some of the keys activities and timings to plan a visit.

Children’s shows:

Besides the fairground rides, face painting and ice skating rink, children can also look forward to six shows.

Each shows starts at 2.30pm inside the big top, except for the first one on November 30, which is a Winter Wonderland Party set to kick of at 3pm.

On December 1, there is a Frozen show and then a Bluey show on December 7. If you miss the Frozen show the first time, Elsa and Anna will return on the last day of the event, December 15.

Snow White and Mickey Mouse will perform on December 8 and an Elf show will take place on December 14.

Children will also be offered the chance to meet their favourite characters after the show.

Adult’s shows:

During the event, adults can enjoy the après-ski party inside the big top, featuring a live DJ, bar and stands offering hot chocolate and mulled wine.

The party starts each Friday and Saturday from 5pm, with different entertainer taking to the stage each evening at 7.30pm to keep the party going.

The first night will feature a Michael Bublé tribute and the following night, November 30, will see Interrobang Band take to the stage.

An Elton John tribute will play on December 6, followed by ‘Now! That’s What I Call… Drag! Bingo!’ on Saturday, December 1.

Rounding off the event, an Ed Sheeran tribute will perform on December 13 and a Coldplay tribute will take to the stage on December 14.

Christmas cinema:

Visitors will also be given the chance to curl up in the Christmas tent and watch festive favourites with two movies being played most days, with a 2.30pm showing and a 5pm showing.

Home Alone which will be screened at 5pm on November 29 and the following day will feature Frozen as the early film and The Grinch as the later film.

The Gruffalo and Elf will then be shown on December 1.

December 6 has one film playing, and it’s Elf again (in case you missed it first time).

The following day will screen Christmas classic The Snowman, followed by Frozen. The Gruffalo and The Grinch will be the two films played on December 8.

The last screenings will see Home Alone played at 5pm on December 13 — then Frozen and Elf on December 14, and, finally, The Snowman and The Grinch on December 15.

More festive activities:

Children’s Christmas workshops are open every Saturday and Sunday during the event, from 12-4pm. This is where young ones can explore their creativity by designing reindeer ornaments and decorating gingerbread.

Families will also be given a chance to experience some Christmas magic up close by meeting a reindeer. This experience is included in the admission price, with reindeer at the event from 12-5pm every Sunday.

Free face painting will be available for children at the Christmas workshop area on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-6pm.

And no Christmsa experience is complete without the big man, so Santa’s Grotto offer children the chance to share their Christmas wishes, take a photos and receive a gift from the North Pole.

Father Christmas will be expecting visitors from 4-8pm on Fridays and 12-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission to Santa’s Grotto is £10 per child, on a first come first served basis.

Prices:

Adult tickets, for those 17 and over, cost £6 while child tickets, aged three to 16, cost £3. Children under two are free.

Parking is limited at the rugby club so the nearest parking is at The BMI or off Shirehall Way, with St Botolph’s Lane used for drop-offs and to enter the event space.

Tickets, either on phone or printed, must be presented to enter the event, with cash and card payments accepted.
