Bury Town Community Football Club launch Youth Disability Football Recreational Centre at Hardwick Heath, in Bury St Edmunds
Coaches at Bury Town Community Football Club are encouraging the community to spread the word about its project for children with special education needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Youth Disability Football Recreational Centre will launch later this month at Hardwick Heath, offering a beginner pan-disability session, for those aged 12 to 16.
Jason Day, recruitment officer and trustee at Bury Town Community Football Club, said he believes there is a real need for more youth disability sessions in the Bury St Edmunds area.
He said: “It has taken a long time for the idea to take off and now I am asking for support from as many people as possible to let people know about the project.
“The sessions will focus on fun and building a social connection for the children and boosting their wellbeing and fitness.”
“We wanted to do it for boys and girls that don’t have many opportunities to play football in the Bury area,” said Mr Day.
The coach running the non-competitive sessions will be Emma Stephen, who recently completed all the necessary training.
Pan-disability covers all disabilities and special education needs, like autism and ADHD, and the sessions are suitable for amputees.
Parents and carers will be asked to stay and support the children.
The first session will run on Sunday, April 27, between 11am - 12pm.
Though there will be a small charge to cover running costs, the first two sessions are free.
Mr Day said: “We’re also looking for sponsors to help us grow the program and provide even more opportunities for young players.”
He hopes sponsorship will ensure the initiative is sustainable.
Those interested in sponsoring the project, or anyone who needs more information, should email: secretary@burytowncommunityfc.co.uk.
